A Horse, in a Very Small Flat
Scale is a composition problem before it is a printing problem.

The commission was a portrait of a horse for a one-bedroom flat with a single free wall measuring just over a metre.
Cropping in rather than scaling down
A full-body portrait at that size loses the head entirely. We cropped to the head and neck, which reads as intimate rather than shrunken.
The print
Forty by fifty centimetres, portrait orientation, plain oak. It holds the wall without dominating the room.
